In 2017, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the launch of the original Pride of Baltimore,
the first tall ship built to represent a city and a state, as well as the first Baltimore Clipper to be built in 150 years.
In 2018, we are celebrating the 30th "birthday" of Pride of Baltimore II,
built to carry on the mission of the original Pride:
to promote historical maritime education,
foster economic development and tourism,
and represent the people of the city of Baltimore and the state of Maryland in ports throughout the world.
Wow! Forty years of Pride tradition under our keel, thanks to you and other generous supporters over the years. Pride II can easily sail into the coming decades, with one requirement: sustained income. Maintaining a wood tall ship from year to year is costly, and, in 2017, we began a 30-year refit of Pride of Baltimore II. The ship is owned and managed by the 501(c)3 nonprofit Pride of Baltimore, Inc., which relies on individual donations, corporate philanthropy, and grants to bridge the gap between earned income and operating expenses each year.
We hope that you'll join the Privateer Society, now designated as the special group for sustaining, or monthly, members. Setting up a recurring monthly donation will spread your gift across the whole year and you won't need to remember to make an annual donation. You can join the Privateer Society for as little as $5 per month. To join, please be sure to check the box beside "Make this a recurring donation (Monthly)."
You may choose not to join the Privateer Society and simply give a one-time gift instead.
Thank you for helping to keep the wind in our sails!
